A few months back my friend Morgan and I realized our study abroad programs both start on June 1st in Rome. This obviously led to us booking our plane tickets a week early to spend extra time exploring Italy at our own will. Somewhere in the planning my boyfriend, Seth, joined the plans before our month of long-distance. Now, I’m creating an itinerary for a week in my dream country with my best friend and boyfriend… life is good!

We are all flying into Rome, but realized that six days is a long time to wander around Rome (especially because Morgan and I are both spending an extra three days there with our programs). After planning an entire trip to Sorrento, Seth’s brother told us to go to Salerno instead. So glad I made a slideshow about the Airbnbs and boat tours! Unfortunately for my pride, he was right. The Airbnbs in Salerno are much nicer and more importantly, much cheaper. The train from Rome to Salerno is also straight through.

After we land in Rome, we are taking the train to Salerno and spending three days there. We plan to hangout, relax and explore the city, but what I’m most excited for is our boat tour. On our second day in Salerno, we booked an all day boat tour. We will get to see the Amalfi coast, snorkel and explore the beach towns. My absolute dream. Our time in Salerno will be the perfect mix of a long guided excursion and relaxing exploration.

On the 29th (my real 21st birthday), we’re taking the train back to Rome. In Rome, we booked another Airbnb that’s right outside of the city, but close enough to explore. So far, our plans in Rome are up in the air. There is so much to do and see that we are struggling to decide on what to do and when.

Our current strategy is looking at places we want to visit, things we want to see and restaurants we want to eat at. When we get there, we can walk around and sight see on our own time. We have an idea of what we want to do, but there isn’t pressure to squeeze it all in.

Though the Rome half of our adventure is the most Type-B trip I have ever taken, I am beyond excited. Going to Italy has been my dream for years. Now, I get to spend a week wandering Italy with my best friend and boyfriend?! Getting the opportunity to explore with Seth and Morgan also softens the blow of an extra month of long distance… again, life is good!
