After being skeptical about the cost of our Amalfi coast boat day it is safe to say that the $180 gave me the best day of my life.
We chose to stay in Salerno for two nights, so we only had one full day. The boat tour we booked was literally our one full day. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
When our skipper pulled up to the dock we realized that we were the only people that booked the boat tour. How did we get lucky enough to get our own private boat tour?! When we started moving it got pretty cold. It was sunny, but at 9:00 a.m. it was still chilly from the morning.
Our first stop was in Maiori. Our skipper anchored the boat and told us we can hangout and swim however long we wanted. Luckily, the sun came out right when we got there so we wouldn’t freeze… except that we did.
Seth jumped in first and told us it was cold, but we’d get used to it quickly. I knew he was lying, but obviously I was excited to jump into the Mediterranean Sea. When Morgan and I jumped my body was shocked at the temperature, but it didn’t matter. I was with my boyfriend and best friend jumping off a boat in the Amalfi coast.
We swam around and took pictures until we were ready to go to our next stop. We went past towns and landmarks for about two hours. He explained the history and fun facts about the coast. We listened to music, talked and tanned until we finally reached Positano.
Because we were the only people on the boat, our skipper let us choose the timing of our day. He told us we can send him a text when we want to keep going.
Positano is my favorite city I’ve been to so far. We were starving so we found a restaurant that overlooked the water. I got clam linguini and realized how amazing the seafood is on the coast. Morgan and I got aperol spritz (obviously) and the three of us sat and talked about the day. We walked around the shops, bought post cards and explored the city.
Our skipper came back and we headed back toward Salerno because we were about half way through the day. He said we had time to visit another town and swim some more. We chose to go to Amalfi before we swam so we weren’t wet while exploring.
Amalfi was beautiful, but couldn’t even compare to Positano. We got gelato and attempted to shop, but the town was so overcrowded we decided to leave early. Our skipper picked us up and we got another long boat ride to enjoy each other and the scenery.
Our second swimming spot was also Maiori, but we stopped in a different area. There were other boats around, beautiful rocks and the beach. Seth swam to the beach and played in the water, but Morgan and I decided to stay on the boat to take pictures and relax.
The Italian police did show up to our boat and another boat. We had no idea what was going on. The only thing we could understand was our skipper pointing at us and saying “Americans!” and the police started laughing. We joke that we got the skipper out of trouble by making fun of us.
After our police encounter we went back to Salerno and got pizza and spritz for dinner. We were all exhausted and slept so well that night. This day will always be one of my fondest memories.
I am forever grateful that I got to find my new favorite city and swim in the Mediterranean with my best friend and my boyfriend.
