After COVID, I did not have very many friends. I was going into my junior year and only had one close friend, Talia. She started inviting me to hang out with her and her friend Isabelle. I knew Isabelle from school, but wasn’t close with her until we all started spending time together. We also met Ellie through another friend and classes. Our little friend group got close quickly and we were inseparable for the rest of high school.
One night we all decided to get frozen yogurt, which immediately became our go-to activity. We would decide who was driving, pick the froyo shop we wanted to go to and drive around for hours once we finished. My order has always been the same: half chocolate froyo with chocolate chips, chocolate sprinkles and half cake batter with gummy bears. Isabelle and Ellie’s orders never stood out to me because they typically got cake batter with strawberries, cheesecake bits or other normal toppings. Talia always got the weirdest froyo. She would mix fruity candy, caramel, cake bits, boba and chocolate sauce, always a different combination. We made fun of her every time and watched as she mixed all of her weird ingredients together. Though watching Talia’s interesting froyo choice was entertaining, I will always love my own.
I have been obsessed with chocolate ever since I was a little kid, specifically, chocolate chip pancakes and chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. The chocolate flavor is very strong, especially with my added chocolate toppings, so I could never get a whole cup of chocolate. I added cake batter to ease the chocolate flavor. My mom says gummy bears and ice cream are a gross combination, but I love the texture when they get cold. My order is perfectly suited to me.
I think the fun aspect of going to get frozen yogurt is that you make it yourself. There are sample cups to try every flavor and there is no limit on how many flavors can be chosen. There are endless toppings to decide what is going to suit the froyo flavor. It is a fun experience and I always get exactly what I want. I can create the perfect ratio of chocolate, cake batter and toppings.
Frozen yogurt is my favorite dessert because it is perfectly tailored to each person. Even though I judge Talia’s concoction and Ellie and Isabelle’s feel normal to me, it doesn’t matter, because we each get exactly what we want. Going to froyo with my friends was fun because we would laugh and joke with each other, but froyo is my favorite dessert because I can get it exactly how I want it.
